HMS Malaya Cup & Singapore FA's distinguished record

Singapore FA has had a long and distinguished record in the Malaysia/Malaya Cup tournament since 1921.

We hold a series of firsts - including being the first winner of the Cup in 1921, first team to win a hattrick of titles and first to win at Shah Alam Stadium in 1994.

Hence it was really awesome tocome across this Souvenir Magazine from the 1958 Final on Ebay (can't tell you how much I paid cos my gf would kill me) and see how it completes the set as I found a Football Rules book from Penang 1959, which contains the pictures of the 2 teams in the 1958 Malaya Cup Final.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) & Singapore Football in the 1960s

The AFC serves as the coordinating body for football in Asia and it administers over 40 footballing nations and territories.

Tunku Abdul Rahman, the 1st Prime Minister of Malaya/Malaysia, was President of AFC from 1958 to the 70s.

It was really awesome to find this old AFC photo from 1959 and a souvenir programme from the 4th Merdeka Cup in 1961...

A look at Singapore National Olympic Council Pins

The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) is the body responsible for coordinating and selecting athletes for participation in major games like the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and the SEA Games.

Over the years, there have been variations to the logo and style of SNOC pin badges.

Thanks to the generous gift of 1960s Swim Legend, Tay Chin Joo, I've gotten some of the rarer earlier editions! Woo hoo!

The 5 pins on the top row were given to me by 1960s Swim Legend, Tay Chin Joo, who was the first swimmer to qualify for the 1972 Munich Olympics. Thanks so much!

The items on the second row are, from left, a tie clip and a commemorative pin. Both are from the 7th SEAP Games that Singapore hosted in September 1973.

Screengrab from www.olympicnocpins.com, the definitive site by Olympin, which lists down pins from all over the world.
Each listing comes with a rarity scale - A is most rare & E is a common pin!

My Latest Acquisitions: Thomas Cup Memorabilia from the 1940s/50s

In the 1940s/50s, when one mentions "Malaya", Singapore immediately comes to mind, even though Singapore had been participating in sporting events since after WW2, most notably at the 1948 London Olympics.

Hence, Wong Peng Soon and Ong Poh Lim, although hailing from Singapore were considered Malayan and therefore eligible to play in the Malayan Thomas Cup Team of 1949 and subsequent ones too.

So always a pleasure for me to come across Thomas Cup memorabilia from the 1940s & 50s... especially when they come with autographs of these stars! #amazingfind

2nd Malaysian National Amateur Athletic Championships 1965

Some 51 years ago, Singapore was still a state within Malaysia and had the honour of hosting the Inter-State Athletic Championships.

Interestingly, Dr Mani Jegathesan who had by then spent 10 years living in Singapore (he was an ACS boy and later went to NUS Med School) represented the State of Singapore and was in the relay team w C Kunalan... What a team that must have been!

Will post more pictures of this historic programme soon but if you noticed, this meet was held just a week plus before Singapore separated from Malaysia, to be an independent nation... #SingaporeSportingMemorabilia

Held 1 week plus before separation!

2 Singapore Athletics stalwarts were in the MAAU Council till 1966 - Goh Teck Phuan who was a Sports Promotion Officer at the Ministry of Culture and A.T. Rajah (father of current MP, MOS Indranee Rajah)
